Reggae

The history of reggae and how it emerged is interesting. It appeared as a result of the fusion of ska and American rock and roll in the 1960’s. What is more curious about this is that ska has surged before as a result of the fusion of American R&B and mento which is a form of folk music in Jamaica. This genre, developed in Jamaica, is sometimes used in a generic form to refer to Jamaican music such as rock steady, ska, dub, raga and dancehall. Finally, the subject matter of reggae varies from love songs to social liberation including religious and political issues. Some of the most outstanding artists who belong to this genre are Bob Marley, Ivy Queen and Matishayu.
