Geffen Records a Renowned Record Brand

Geffen Records is an American record brand, possessed by Universal Music Group. It was established in 1980 by music business manger David Geffen who, in the early seventies, had created Asylum Records, but soon after stood down after being detected with cancer. After his recuperation, Geffen emerged and struck a contract with Warner Brothers Records to form Geffen Records. Warner gave 100 percent of the financial support for the brand's procedures, while Geffen maintained 50 percent of the income, and spread its records.




 


Geffen Records' initial signing was disco musician Donna Summer, whose gold vending record “The Wanderer” became the brand's first project in 1980. The brand went after it up with Double Fantasy by Yoko Ono and John Lennon. It was Lennon's first record of all new stuff in some years. Two days later than it entered the graphic representations on news, Lennon was murdered in New York City. Consequently, the record went on to sell millions and gave the brand its original number one record and solo, but beneath the catastrophic situation, there was not much reason for festivity.



 


As the eighties continued, Geffen Records sustained to get a handful of previously well-known music idols, featuring: Peter Gabriel, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Don Henley, Cher, and Elton John. Just before the conclusion of the decade, the corporation also began creating a name for itself as an up-and-coming rock brand. This encouraged Geffen to formed DGC Records to manage as a division brand, centered on more modern sounds, that would later hold the coming out of alternative rock, with powerful acts such as Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and The Nymphs.
