Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 5, 2006 -- Multi-award-winning children’s musician and early childhood educator Susan Salidor’s newly released studio CD, ‘Come and Make a Circle 2: More Terrific Tunes for Kids, Teachers and Families’ (Peachhead Productions, $15.00) marks the second in the ‘Come and Make a Circle’ series and is Susan Salidor’s sixth recording for young children. ‘Come and Make a Circle 2’ is a companion to the first ‘Come and Make a Circle' CD, hailed as essential by teachers and critics, and winner of an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award, Parents’ Choice Award, NAPPA Award, and iParenting Media Award.

Using the same successful format as its predecessor, ‘Come and Make a Circle 2’ expands the resources of teachers, child care professionals and thoughtful parents who value “Circle Time” as a way of teaching connection, sharing, empathy, social justice, and sense of community. The album is divided into six sections, reflecting the form of a happy, productive Circle Time and guiding listeners through warm-ups, fingerplays, “Rhythm and Rhyme,” “Songs that Teach,” “Old Favorites,” and “Time to End.” Within each section lies a choice of material, including original and traditional songs, in addition to a number of “Salidor Favorites” from Susan Salidor’s previous recordings. Creative suggestions on how to use the songs and fingerplays in the home and classroom are found on Susan Salidor’s website, www.susansalidor.com.

Whether traditional (“The Wheels on the Bus,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” “One Potato, Two Potato,” “Home on the Range”) or new (“I Have a Dream,” “Before You Were Born,” “Hello Children,” “You’re a Poet”) the songs in ‘Come and Make a Circle 2’ are treated with freshness, clarity, and Susan Salidor’s unswerving sense of balance and color. Dubbed “a children’s performer with the heart of a teacher,” Susan Salidor explains, “Just as with the first ‘Come and Make a Circle,’ my hope for this album is to provide great songs and fingerplays that children, early childhood educators, daycare providers, and parents will be able to easily learn and will love to use during circle time, whether in the classroom or at home.”

Prior to beginning her work with children, Susan Salidor spent years performing in musical theatre and cabaret. ‘Come and Make a Circle 2’ listeners will appreciate Susan’s theatrical flair in the outstanding quality of her “clear-as-a-bell” vocals, the humor of her lyrics, and the high level of songwriting that has distinguished her work in the children’s music field for over a decade. All musical elements — melody, harmony, rhythm, form, tone color — are brought together to carry into the young child’s life a sense of grace, beauty, and style. Any child exposed to generous doses of Susan Salidor is going to grow up knowing about music from the inside out.

Notes Susan, “When I was a child, I wanted to be another Barbra Streisand. I loved everything about her: her early years in clubs, her movie career, her recordings, AND her sense of humor. Some parents tell me that’s what sets me apart from other performers – that, and a bent toward social justice issues that tend to color my songwriting and song choices in concert and on my recordings.”

Over the years, Susan Salidor has won ten national awards for her recordings, including four Parents’ Choice Foundation Awards, three Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Awards, a NAPPA (National Parenting Publications) Award, an iParenting Media Award, and a Publishers Weekly “Listen Up!” Award. Susan’s first recording, ‘Little Voices In My Head,’ was named “one of the year’s five best children’s recordings” by Sesame Street Magazine and received an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Award. Her second album, ‘Susan Salidor: By Heart,” won the prestigious Parents’ Choice Gold Award and was praised in the Chicago Tribune, Parents Magazine, Booklist, and Family Fun Magazine, which called ‘By Heart’ “an album to savor.” Susan Salidor’s third recording, ‘Color Me Singing,’ also received the Parents’ Choice Gold Award, and her fourth recording, ‘Shiny New Shoes’ won a Parents’ Choice Silver Award.

On the educational front, Susan Salidor’s music workshops, ‘Sure-Fire Hits for Preschool Teachers,’ ‘Sure-Fire Hits 2: Just the Songs,’ and ‘Come and Make a Circle,’ have received rave reviews at professional teaching conferences nationwide. She is a regular presenter at the national NAEYC (National Association of Educators of Young Children) conference, which draws 25,000 early childhood educators annually. Additionally, Susan co-hosts ‘Kids Play,’ an hour-long children’s music radio program broadcast on Saturdays from WLUW-FM, Chicago.
