Cold Play is a Britpop and alternative rock band from England. The members of the band are Chris Martin (leading vocalist, pianist, keyboardist and guitarist), Jonny Buckland (guitarist, and backing vocalist), Guy Berryman (bassist, guitarist and backing vocalist) and Will Champion (drummer, pianist and backing vocalist). In spite of the fact that they have achieved popularity for their music, they don’t want the media to use their music as a commercial product. The first members of the band were Chris and Jonny who met each other at College in 1996. From that moment, they started writing songs and looking for members to create their band, which was finally established in 1998.

In 1999 they focused all their attention on preparing their debut album. Parachutes was released in July 2000 and quickly reach the top positions, remaining in the top ten for 33 weeks in The United Kingdom. "Shiver","Trouble", "Don't Panic", and "Yellow", were the singles enclosed in this album that were released. “Yellow” was awarded Best Single by NME. They also were given a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album and a Brit Award for Best British Album. The success achieved in Europe encouraged them to reach other audiences. For that reason, they start a successful Parachutes tour. Their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), included the singles “In My Place”, "The Scientist” and “Green Eyes”. This album won again a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album.

Cold Play has been greatly influenced by the music of worldwide recognized musicians: U2, Oasis, Kate Bush, Travis, Radiohead, Kate Bush, Pink Floyd, R.E.M, Johnny Cash, a-ha, Bob Dylan and Echo and the Bunnymen. In June 2005, Cold Play released their third studio album X&Y. The album reached the #1 in charts of 28 countries all around the world. "Fix You", "Talk", "Speed of Sound" and "The Hardest Part" were the singles released of this album. With this album, they won: Album of the Year (Q Magazine), Top 100 Editor's Picks of 2005 (Amazon.com), Best Album (MSN), Best British Album (Brit Awards) and International Album of the Year (Juno Awards). Cold Play keeps working in order to release high quality albums with new musical proposals.
