Willard Christopher Smith Jr., a.k.a. Will Smith was born on September 25, 1968 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has won several Grammy awards as a hip hop artist and he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Ali. The lyrics of his songs do not have profanities. Will Smith has been successful in the three major entertainment areas of the United States: the music industry, television and the big screen. In high school, Smith obtained the nickname fresh prince.

Will Smith and his childhood friend Jeffrey Townes (DJ Jazzy Jeff) found a hip hop duo called DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. They won a Grammy in the Rap category in 1988. In 1990, NBC television network signed him; the network built a show for him:  The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. This sitcom had a lot of success, thus the career of Will Smith was revitalized.

As an actor, Smith appeared in movies such as: Where the Day Takes You, Made in America, Six Degrees of Separation, Bad Boys, Independence Day, Men in Black, Enemy of the State, Wild Wild West, The Legend of Bagger Vance, Ali, Men in Black II, Bad Boys II, I Robot, Shark Tale and Hitch. His movies usually open on the 4th of July weekend; therefore, many say that the 4th of July weekends when a Will Smith movie is released have to be called Big Willie Weekend. He is married to actress Jada Pinkett Smith.
