Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer: Together for More than 20 Years

Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer have been together in the music business for more than 20 years. They also have won two Grammy Awards and have produced records for several artists like Patsy Montana, Tom Paxton and others. They have played thousands of concerts and had wrote more than 200 singles.

Marcy is from Michigan, since her early years she was fascinated with the bluegrass and old music. When she was a little girl she learned to play the guitar, button accordion, mandolin and hammered dulcimer. She worked for the company General Motors, but in 1978, after training in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Ringling Brothers Clown School ,she dedicated her life to the music.

On the other hand, Cathy is originally from Maryland but she began her career in Canada, playing in coffeehouses and in the subway. She plays the guitar, yodeler and banjo. In 1975 she toured with the singer Duck Donald and for 1980 she already had 3 records.

Cathy and Marcy met each other in the Toronto Folk Festival in 1980 and three years later they were already writing songs and by 1989 they released a self titled album. They won their first Grammy Award in 2004 for “Best Traditional Folk Album” for their disc “Postcards”. The second was achieved for the disc “cELLAbration: A Tribute to Ella Jenkins” in 2005. Cathy and Marcy have released more than a dozen of albums and they have also won other recognitions for other songs.
