Van Halen is a rock band that was formed in the 1970’s. They released Van Halen, their first studio album in 1978. The album became a classic of rock music and the band reached the status of commercial leaders of the heavy metal music genre of the 1980’s in the United States. The members of Van Halen that have remained with the band since 1974 are: Eddie Van Halen (guitar, bass, vocals and keyboards), Alex Van Halen (drums and percussion), and Michael Anthony (bass and vocals). After the success of the debut album of Van Halen, guitarist Eddie Van Halen became famous for his musical sensibility and technique; he is among the most influential and innovative rock and roll guitarists.

This band is known for its constant change of singers. Van Halen has recorded albums with three different singers: David Lee Roth (from 1974 to 1985 and in 1996), Sammy Hagar (from 1985 to 1996 and in 2004), and Gary Cherone (from 1996 to 1999). All of them have left the band at least once. Most of the departures have occurred under some controversy. Van Halen has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide. This band has been nominated for a Grammy on several occasions.
