8 Mile is a movie that stars Eminem (Marshall Mathers) as Jimmy Smith Jr., a young white rapper from Eight Mile Road, the frontier between the African American part of Detroit, Michigan and the white suburbs. The term “8 Mile” represents this hard to cross barrier. Other stars of this movie are Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, Evan Jones, De’Angelo Wilson and Taryn Manning.

This movie has two soundtracks; one of these albums has many new songs of Eminem and collaborations of 50 Cent and Obie Trice. The other soundtrack contains songs that were mentioned in the movie. Most of these songs are hip hop tracks from 1995 and earlier, which is the time when the history in the movie takes place. Some artists that are included on this second soundtrack are Notorious B.I.G., The Pharcyde, Mobb Deep and Wu-Tang Clan.

The most famous song of this movie is “Lose Yourself” of Eminem. This song is played during the closing credits of the film. “Lose Yourself” won the 2002 Academy Award for Best Original Song. The co-writers of this song are Eminem, Jeff Bass and Luis Resto; Eminem did not attend the 2002 Oscar Ceremony but Luis Resto accepted the award for him.
