Lang Lang (born June 14, 1982) is a Chinese pianist from the province of Shenyang. His interest in music started very early in his life; when he was 3 years old he began to take piano lessons with Professor Zhu Ta-Fen, and upon reaching five years of age, Lang won the Shenyang Piano Competition and performed a recital in public for the first time. When he was nine, Lang entered Beijing’s Central Music Conservatory, where he studied with Professor Zhao Ping-Guo, and at 11 years old, he won the first prize at the Fourth International Young Pianists Competition held in Germany.

More recently, Lang Lang has received several awards and has appeared in many television shows, such as in the Kirov Orchestra (with Gergiev) in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, his performance with Sir Simon Rattle in 2004, and the Berlin Philharmonic at the Waldbühne, which was broadcasted internationally and attended by twenty-three thousand people. In 2002, Lang Lang became the first person to receive the Lonard Bernstein Award at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival for his notable musical talent.

In addition to his music career, Lang Lang likes to share music with young people and worked with the United Nations' Children's Fund garnering support and raising funds for the survival and health of under-privileged children around the world.
