Switchfoot is a band established in San Diego, California by 1997. The subject matter of their songs relies on social themes and spiritual issues. Belonging to the Alternative rock, power pop, post-grunge genres, this band is composed of six members: Jon Foreman (vocalist, guitarist), Tim Foreman (bassist, backing vocalists), Chad Butler (drummer), Jerome Fontamillas (guitarist, keyboardist, backing vocalsist), and Drew Shirley (guitarist). However, at the beginning, the band only included Jon, Tim and Chad. They released their first albums The Legend of Chin, New Way to be Human and Learning to Breathe with the label Sparrow Records.

Some years later, the change that would lead them to popularity taking place when they were included in the soundtrack for A Walk to Remember in 2002. Besides starring Mandy Moore singing their song “Only Hope”, one of Switchfoot’s members, Jon, did a duet with her. This also opened them the doors to a major label with which they released the album The Beautiful Letdown (2003). This album not only went double-platinum for sales, but also included two of the band’s most important hits: “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move”. With this single they won a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award in 2005. The Beautiful Letdown, Live in San Diego, and the singles “This Is Your Life” and “Gone” were part of the success of Switchfoot. They received five nominations to Dove awards.

Lately, they worked in their last release Nothing Is Sound (2005). The album was well accepted by the public who placed it third on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The singles “Stars” and “We are One Tonight” were also very successful singles that caught the attention of mainstream audiences. Their commitment to the society goes beyond music. They participate in other humanitarian causes helping others through foundations and other campaigns.
