Gloria Gaynor is a recognized disco singer and actress; her real name is Gloria Fowles, she was born on September 7, 1949 in Newark, New Jersey. Her most popular songs are: “I Will Survive” (#1 of the Hot 100 in 1979) and “Never Can Say Goodbye” (#9 of the Hot 100 in 1974). “Never Can Say Goodbye” was the first song of this artist that reached the top of the dance chart of Billboard magazine. Gloria used to be the singer of a jazz/pop band of the 1960’s called Soul Satisfiers. In 1965, she released “She’ll Be Sorry / Let Me Go Baby”, her first solo single. The lyrics of the song “I Will Survive” narrate the story of a woman that was recently dumped by her boyfriend and tells him that she can be happy without him and move on not wanting anything more from him. “I Will Survive” became an anthem of female liberation; it is part of almost every office party or karaoke night.

Other disco songs of this artist are: “I Am What I Am”, “Casanova Brown” and “Honey Bee.” She began her acting career at the end of the 1990’s when she guest starred on Ally McBeal, That 70’s Show and The Wayans Bros. In 2002, she released I Wish You Love, her first album in 20 years. Two singles were released from this album: “Just Keep Thinking About You” and “I Never Knew”; these two songs topped the Dance chart of Billboard. Gloria Gaynor was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in the Artist Inductees category on September 19, 2005. Her song “I Will Survive” was inducted in the Records Inductees category.
