Village People are a disco group that was assembled in 1977 when Henri Belolo and Jacques Morali created the costumes, the songs and the music style that they would have. Belolo and Morali were from France but all the songs are written in English. The members of Village People are recognized because of the American Indian chief, soldier, biker, cowboy, police officer and construction worker costumes that they use on the sceneries. The lyrics of their songs are extremely evocative. The name Village People alludes to a famous gay area of New York City called Greenwich Village; this name was given to this group because Belolo and Morali felt that it would be a good representation of American men characterizing the gay men of the Village.

The current members of Village People are: David “Scar” Hodo (the construction worker), Alex Briley (the soldier), Felipe Rose (the American Indian chief), Ray Simpson (the police officer since 1980), Eric Anzalone (the biker since 1995) and G. Jeff Olsen (the cowboy since 1980). The former members of Village People are: Victor Willis (the police officer until 1980), Glen Hughes (the biker until 1995), and Randy Jones (the cowboy until 1980). In 2006, Village People will appear in an act at the famous GayPride parade and festival in Asbury’s Park. The members of this group appeared as minor characters in an animated series called Reboot. The most famous songs of Village People are: “In the Navy”, “Go West”, “Macho Man” and “YMCA.”
