One of the golden voices of American jazz, Esther Mae Jones, better known as Esther Phillips, used to perform different genres and combine them; for example, she sang pop, soul, R&B, country and jazz music. Esther was born in Galveston, Texas, December 23, 1935.

By 1949, she participated in a contest in Los Angeles; her voice impressed Johnny Otis very much so he invited her to record “Double Crossin’ Blues".

During the 1970’s, Esther Phillips released her premium production “From A Whisper to a Scream". She had to deal with her career’s commitments as well as fight against her drug dependency.

Some people describe her vocal sounds as a mixture of “bitter” and “sweet” flavors, combined with a “salty attitude” because her tone was nasal and unique at a time. During the sixties, one of her most important singles, called “Release Me” became a hit in the pop charts. Phillips passed away in California, August 7, 1984.

You will enjoy very much listening to her songs and her voice will astonish you.
